The technological horizon of AI in 2026

Or when will there be a robot that does my dishes?

  • AI everywhere, in every form
  • Agentic AI (what's that?)
  • AI to sell everything you don't need
  • What about my website?
    • Toolbox
  • Yes, let's talk about safety!

It's been over three years since ChatGPT entered our lives. Artificial intelligence, regardless of the model used, has transformed the way we work, play, and even engage in personal development #chatCoachdevie!

From simple conversational exchanges to random support ("Chat... can I substitute Worcestershire sauce for soy sauce?") to sophisticated systems and agents capable of performing numerous specialized tasks in record time, AI is no longer the curious novelty of the day. It is now in a phase of real integration... and our lives will continue to change.

As we approach 2026, the WebSimple blog humbly offers a few AI predictions related to the web that we believe will shape the year. We also focused on what will most directly affect our daily lives.

In short, quantum computers are fascinating (Ah! Nerds!), but they're not for everyone. So, what can we expect this year in terms of artificial intelligence in our everyday lives? Let's get started.

When will we see cantaloupe spoons connected to artificial intelligence?

For those who are already fed up with seeing AI spreading through all their work software like the bubonic plague in the Middle Ages... buckle up, this is only the beginning (they have to get a return on their investment 🤫).

Email, search engines, QuickBooks, Canva, Word (why does Copilot want to help me copy and paste? 🤔), and so on: AI is now everywhere... for better and sometimes... for nothing!

That said, we believe that 2026 will be a pivotal year in terms of relevance and effectiveness. In recent years, AI, still in its "beta" stage, has been rapidly introduced everywhere as a new toy, with mixed results and sometimes questionable usefulness. It was a race!

Today, AI is more mature and better understood. Tools will become more refined, more targeted, and more powerful, because users have become more demanding. We will no longer be impressed by images of six-fingered characters.

Technologies will now have to align with real needs, simply because no one uses useless or non-functional tools for long. But rest assured: some companies will still try to connect your cantaloupe spoon to Wi-Fi.

Classic AI vs. agentic AI

Classic AI:
"I suggest you go see Denis Villeneuve's latest film."
Agent AI:
"I bought your ticket, invited your friends, and just debited $400 from your account! 😁"

In 2026, you will hear more and more about agentic AI. Agency is the ability to take action. We learn something new every day! So an "agent" type AI will be able to make decisions and act.

Organizations are now looking to go beyond simply being supported by AI and instead enable it to automate certain actions. For example, the difference between saying, "Chat, can you write an email to wish customers a happy new year?" and emails that have already been sent, without even having to think about it, with the added bonus of personalized reminders to customers.

For now, it is mainly the big players who are using these types of systems, but considering their potential, it is a safe bet that they will quickly find their way into our workplaces.

It will be up to us to see how we can keep our relationships as human as possible.

AI to sell everything you don't need

"ChatGPT, I'm not doing well 😭"
"I understand 🫂. Have you thought about buying a new toolbox? 😁👍🧰"

There are ads on the street, on TV, on the radio, on YouTube, and even on Netflix. You didn't think AI would escape that, did you?

The major players in AI, who will eventually need funding at some point, will likely integrate more and more advertisements directly into AI chat threads or search results, in the form of products or services that you may (or may not) need.

Hypothetically, if you ask ChatGPT what the best lightsabers are for your collection, it could soon suggest products directly from sales platforms, complete with images, prices, and a direct link to checkout. Awesome! I couldn't live without this pocket air fryer for camping!

In 2026, we will therefore need to be extra vigilant and consume responsibly.

Research, search engine optimization, and artificial intelligence

🤖: "What is this website? When in doubt, just say anything!"

You've probably noticed that when you ask a question in a search engine, the first answers are often generated by AI. It's even possible to launch a search based entirely on AI.

Our websites will therefore need to appeal not only to humans, but also to intelligent bots that analyze our pages, social media, and other platforms to find answers.

The risk? That these bots make mistakes, get tangled up in conflicting information, or transmit incorrect data to your customers: different opening hours, poorly described services, outdated information that is still accessible.

It is therefore likely that companies will redouble their efforts to centralize, review, and improve their content. Even if the exercise is aimed at pleasing machines, it remains very beneficial for clarifying one's offering and communicating more effectively.

Toolkit: How to Appeal to AI 101
  • Check what different AI platforms are already saying about your organization
  • Identify any conflicting or incorrect information and correct it.
  • Ensure that your data is consistent across all platforms: website, social media, Google My Business, online directories, etc.
  • The key to success: a comprehensive and up-to-date FAQ. Bots love it.

Enhanced security

Technology is evolving very quickly. Perhaps too quickly, especially for governments and large institutions. In 2026, security will be more than ever at the heart of discussions surrounding AI.

The web can become a battleground for misinformation, polarization, and deepfakes. So you'll be hearing more about digital sovereignty, defined by the Government of Canada as "the ability to exercise autonomy over one's digital infrastructure, data, and intellectual property."

This is reassuring news in this rapidly changing world. Things are moving forward, and concrete measures are beginning to be put in place to protect the population. 🤞

To conclude

Whether we like it or are already fed up with it, AI is here to stay. Perhaps not in the form of destructive Terminator-like machines, but rather as increasingly effective tools... and possibly as increasingly personalized sales channels.

Whether in a small business or at the government level, we will have to adapt and implement responsible solutions. And remember: you remain in control of how these tools are used.

The entire WebSimple team wishes you a 2026 filled with kindness, calm, community, and resilience.
